I put a minimal bit of effort into this a few months ago, and got it
down to 900k or so, but it wasn't obvious how to

opinion, but I don't think PythonCE will get much traction
unless and until someone decides to clean up the build and contribute
it back to the core.

Windows CE is specifically warped enough to make it worse.
