You might also want to consider using Applescript Studio and then
making "do shell script" calls to python. This is quite effective for
simple dialog boxes. I have made a few of these applications and they
have a huge bang for the buck.

It works fine for me using Python 2.5.1 on MacBook Pro. I don't think I
did anything special to install it.
