The failure is happening when testing the language links of Wikipedia:Administration page.
There is a [[af:Wikipedia:Administrasie]] in the wikitext. It is not treated as a language link on the wiki but a red link.
However, the API returns it as a language link:

The page "Draft talk:Draft:Testing AFCH" in the main namespace does exist, presumably due to some bug around July 2015 when it was created. You can see it
