I think that dxf import could be greatly enhanced. I'v played with french
cadastre (edigeo -> converted using topocad -> dxf).

Are you aware that OGR has improved a lot in the past regarding DXF?
QGIS has to follow up in separating the geometry types, supporting OGR
feature styles, supporting blocks, etc. It is possible.

As the current QGIS extent does not exactly match any layer (even if
you do zoom to layer extent, the actual extent will depend
on your display also), I think that a button "Define from current QGIS
layer" in panel Define Default GRASS Region could be most useful.
