I downloaded the
I posted this as a bug at https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/41248 and
Giovanni Manghi suggested I bring it here.
For a lot of users, QGIS currently shows the main map canvas at the wrong
scale, whenever their systemwide "display scaling"(=logical dpi) doesn't
match their screen's physical dpi.
In thinking about it, if the data set is too large to include with QGIS, it
might be worth having a simplified geometry data set included and if the
user wants more precise data then they can download it and use it instead.

Hi,
The responses I have had from previous questions on here have been really
helpful, thank you.
As part of our GIS workflow, we acquire images and PDFs that are linked to a
GIS record that currently resides in QGIS. We would like to look at options
that allow us to create a plugin to QGIS
Richard,
If the map is simplified, then you lose precision, but it would be
wonderful if a gpkg of the time zones could be added to QGIS. Here is the
time zone map data.

Nyall,
What you mention has merit, but I was not kidding about trying to keep a
plugin self contained for government use. To set up automatic downloading
on our networks would require PKI authentication and that opens up another
can of worms. I know how to deal with PKI because I already
maintain
Ah that is super thanks for sharing. For those testing out point clouds in
3.18 / master there is a nice collection of lidar data that can be obtained
there too!
Thanks for sharing!
