I had this problem when I was running 1.8 and 1.9 out of osgeo.
I think I ended up keeping backup copies of the qgis and qgis-dev bat files and
subbing them in when one broke. It's a bit annoying but it worked.

I use OsGeo4W to install both QGIS stable and master releases.
Due to the bug of QGIS 2.6.0-1 that crashes QGIS and ruins some older
