does the new symbology engine support to create complex double boundaries as
shown in the attached image (see arrows).
a) A Dash Dash Dot boundary and inside a blue line
b) A boundary with Dashes and inside a line with Dots

yes - both cases are possible. You can use the line offsets, custom
dashing and marker lines. Maybe you can even do without the markers.

thanks a lot for the hint. I almost managed to create a) and b). But I
don't understand exactly how to create a new Dash Dash Dot line with the use
custom dash pattern function. Can you give me a hint, how to do this?
