Sorry, I failed to mentioned the version of QGIS that I am on.
It is 1.8.0-104 nightly build version.
Thanks Again,

Sorry for the lengthy email.
Got a question about changing the projection for the following to WGS84:
I received shapefiles info for my neighborhood but the projection is in

Hi Ross
An approach is to save a project with one raster layer with 1.7, then compare
the layer xml with the one of the 1.6 version.
Might be quicker compared to dropping layers one by one.
If it still does not work, you could run QGIS with a debugger and see where it
stops.

Hi Frederick,
I have this combination: geoserver (2.0.2) with gwc and
1) QGIS 1.7.0 on WinXP
2) QGIS 1.7.1 on OpenSuse
I access the WMS server with tiled=true and get several tilesets to
choose from in QGIS. As you use CutePDF I assume you are on a Windows
platform.
Tests (MapComposer with on
Very many thanks indeed! Really appreciate the support!

I can't say it's best practice but I have done it before. You will need
remove the legendlayer and use the layerid= to find any links to that legend
item ie maplayer. You will also need to change the "projectlayers

Great suggestion. Thank you. I'm guessing you mean manually remove a whole
tag at a time and reduce the total layers count in the XML file,
right? Is the XML project file structure robust enough to allow me to
manually 'hack' the file like this?
Thanks again!

Very strange. The only thing I can think of at this time is take a backup
of your project and remove each layer one by one resaving and opening the
project each time to see if taking one out loads.
See how you go with that.

Hi Nathan,
OK - even more strange. This string does not appear in my project file at
all. I checked in a text editor and grepped to be absolutely sure.

OK, thanks for the tip re file number! Fingers crossed it's not that though.
Sorry - now I get you. You mean can I load the layer called
'VectorBackgroundMapMarch2011' in its own right into a fresh project, right?
Here's the rub - and also why I was confused by your question - there's no

I recall hearing about a bug where layers fail to load if there is a certain
number of files in the project but this might be something unrelated.
I mean can you load
/mnt/bunker/ross/Research/PhD/NewMapMarch2011/VectorBackgroundMapMarch2011
in QGIS on it's own in a fresh project.

How many layers do you have in this project file? And can you load the file
by itself?

Hi Ross,
That sounds a bit strange. Can you start QGIS from the terminal and see
what the output is when it locks up.

Hi there,
I've updated my Ubuntu 10.10 installation to use QGIS 1.7. I put a lot of
work into a project using QGIS 1.6 but it won't open in 1.7. The layers all
appear but then the screen freezes as though QGIS is rendering the resulting
map forever.
A bit of googling revealed that there was a bug

If you're also considering offline editing, spatialite and qgis is the
way to go. You can create a parent spatialite and convert the data as
an offline spatialite which is what you will use for your field
laptops. Back in the "office", you can sync the edited offline
spatialite db into the paraen

Dear QGIS'lers,
in the moment sitting on an internal code sprint on Mallorca, nice
weather...
I tried the mapserver export plugin (and much more...).
The mapfile looks pretty good, there are some issues - e.g. compability
to Mapserver 6 - but what is missing definitely are the symbols.txt and
Hi,Germán. I found that just a few hours before I saw your email.
Turns out it doesn't work with the ogr sde driver. It does work with shapefiles
though...
Thanks anyway.

I stand to be corrected, I'm not an expert.
Mercator is a projected coordinate system so I'm not sure that you will get
very far trying to georeference your chart using lat/lon GCPs. If you have
(say) four lat/lon GCPs I think it would be best to transform them to
Mercator coordinates and use thes
Hi Giovanni,
thanks for the quick response. This is exactly what I thought could be the
issue. But there are a few things which I don't understand:
1. The map tiles are provided by a geoservers GWC. When I add the layer to e.g.
