Dear list,
The recent version of Google Maps made it possible to cache maps locally
to use offline.
Has anyone had any luck reading them in QGIS? I tried to search around
but apparently it is not supported in gdal yet.

BTW,
Don't you have horrible performance with your WMS-C ?
In QGis 1.7.4 I need a few second to connect (and see) my wms-c.
But with 1.8.0 (on the same machine, with the same server) it takes minutes
to connect Oo.
Any idea ?

The easiest way to see if matplotlib is installed is
1) open terminal.app
2) type "python"
3) type "import matplotlib"
or
1) open the Python console in QGIS
2) type "import matplotlib"
In my case this is not the matplotlib of William but a version compiled by

No, don't copy over matplotlib between python versions - it has binary
components that are built for a specific version of python (though 2.6 version
may work on 2.7).
And it won't matter to QGIS - it is hardwired for a specific Python per the
system. On Lion it's Python 2.7 and on Snow Leopar
Etienne suggested this problem could be caused by an old version of matplotlib.
On ubuntu 10.04, the newest is python-matplotlib 0.99.1.2.
I solved the problem by:
1. uninstalling python-matplotlib 0.99.1.2. (et. al) using synaptic
2. Visiting http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/ and Downloading from
that happens when you install gdal-1.9 on top of gdal-1.8 without
removing the 1.8 files first.

Hi Agus.
Go to your /Library/python folder and see if you have matplotib
installed in 2.6 and 2.7.
If not just copy the matplotlib folder to the site-packages if one is missing.

Hi Agus,

It is working now.
I got the blue dots with lines when I hover into the tiff map.
Do this means that matplotlib is working, right?

Do we need to install SAGA before we can use SAGA module in QGIS?

I found the reason and the fix:
I had several old (2010) libgdal* files (including libgdal.so.*) in
/usr/local/lib masking the new ones in /usr/lib
Deleting (actually moving them to another directory just in case) the
ones in /usr/local/lib
makes a clean start up of qgis.

Most probably no checkbox - because no pyqwt! Are the dots in the

Using qgis 1.8 on ubuntu 10.04
I've upgraded to python-gdal 1.9 and the GdalTools plugin and some others
complain at qgis start-up:

and do you have the option to select qwt or matplotlib?

Hi Agus,
I activated in View -> Panels and I can see the graph (i.e x,y axis)
when I checked the checkbox. I think this plugin is working in Lion
which uses python 2.7.
Are you using Snow Leopard?

Thanks Noli.
Go to View/Panels and you can activate it there.
Then display a multilayer raster and check both qwt and matplotlib.
If matplotlib is working for you then most likely is that I've done
something wrong in the installation.
Will check this evening and report back.

I am using Mac OS X Lion.
Installed Value Tool plugin, however, I don't not find the value tool menu.
Where is it located?
How to do you check if matplotlib is not find by value tool?
I sucessfully installed contour plugin which use matplotlib and shapely.
