Generally if you want to build new markers for QGIS you should use an SVG editor: Inkscape, Libreoffice Draw, or Illustrator. If the goal is to make a map composition for publication, then exporting pdf or svg and finishing in one of the above programs would be recommended. The original question

[Qgis-user] Save the viewextent of a WMS as geotiff

I have added a wms of a orthophoto to my map in 2.0.1. Dufour. I want to save a part ( the viewextent) as a geotiff for further use. QGIS seems to be saving the data when I use 'save as' But nothing is actually saved. Does anyone have a suggestion what goes wrong? Nicole ___

One further thought on this - is it supposed to be so incredibly slow? Especially given it's basically only reprojecting from/to the same coordinate system (with a few decimal places of difference). Hi Andrea, If jpeg output isn't working for your there is something wrong with your installation (maybe the jpeg library is not properly linked). I think that JPEG output is useful for orthoimages. Most other maps where you have a lot of homogeneous areas with few colors are better handled by PNG
