to remove '.qgis2' directoty, try first to remove the
qgis2compat plugin, if installed, or just try to rename the plugins
directory. If Qgis come up without problem, try to move back the
plugins to test witch one is the culprit.

Sorry to answer myself. I just found a raster layer that gdalinfo
reports :
Band 1 Block=256x4 Type=Float64, ColorInterp=Gray
orks correctly I think the problem is
somewhat related to the interface with Qt.
I don't normally work with raster layers, but if you have a (very)
small example with floating point attribute I can try it here.
