similar to QGIS Web client, but it works for all projects without any
configuration.

If You save Your tiff using some non-gis software (like Gimp for
example, or ImageMagick convert) geotiff metadata will be lost and QGIS
will start using tfw.

I am trying to compile Debian package from current trunk version of
QGIS, revision 11737. All dependencies installed. Since now I didn't
have any problems to compile.
