Steve (or any new QGIS users),
For future reference, it is maybe better practice to digitise polygon sides
simply as lines and then use one of the line>polygon tools in QGIS, GRASS or
SAGA. Advantages are that you only digitise the lines once (much quicker, no
double digitising) and so only re
GRASS7 commands which was
one suggestion. (I wil look into that)
Meanwhile, are there any other suggestions?
Thanks again.

Zoltan,
I suggest you create a Csv file and plot the points on a large scale map
or hi-res satellite image.
You say "varies very widely", a quick check indicated the max. variation
between your points is approx 8m and the min. approx 1m.
I would say if you are getting 3m GPS accuracy that is
Hi Sarah,
I think what you may have for (N 3904,668 - E 1652,784) is actually
degrees, minutes and decimal minutes:
N 39d 04min .668dec min (or 40.08sec [.668*60]) = N 39d 04min 40.08 sec
E 16d 52min .784 dec min (or 47.04sec [.784*60]) = N 16d 52min 47.04 sec
or in decimal degrees

. This seemed to work fine as I was then able to
calculate the population density.
Any problems I can send it offline.

Albin,
You are correct that SVG does cause some problems and often generates an
error message which I usually ignore when exporting a file.
A Pdf does work in Illustrator but I have had better success with SVG,
especially if you wish to edit any map features or separate them into
layers.

Gill,
When using Adobe Illustrator an exported SVG from Print Compose works
better than an exported PDF.

Hi Andreas,
Many thanks for your extensive response which makes some very good
points and has enlightened me on recent improvements that exist in v2.0.
I will take on board your suggestions and also monitor more closely the
posts on the QGIS list and on GIS stackexchange.

Some very impressive maps, QGIS can do most mapping tasks and does them

Dear Users,
Am I correct in thinking that it is currently not possible to convert a
QGIS project file (.qgs) to an ArcGIS map file (.mxd).
I know it can be done in reverse using the MXD2QGS Tool in ArcToolbox.
