How should we do it in practice? Should we just copy the palettes of
'1-band raster colour table' to another directory? Or is this something
that requires some modifications in the code of the vector symbology and thus
we have to wait for a future version?

Could the excellent color ramps provided in the new plugin 1-band
raster colour table
(thanks Benoit!!) be also available in the New Symbology Layer
properties/Color Ramp for vector layers?

Yes, I guess they could be used in the New Symbology Layer properties.
The colour palettes have very simple file formats so they could be
easily integrated by other functions.
Also, it has been strongly suggested that the '1-band raster colour
table' plugin be integrated in QGIS core
