not all symbologies of new symbology are working. Easiest test is to
first try one layer at the time, to find out which one is not working.
Maybe it is possible to use a simpler symbology for that layer?

I have tried to use the python plugin to export my map as a svg. When it
worked it was selective about which layers it exported and at the moment it
crashes. I was wondering if there is another way of exporting an image or
vector graphic of my map. I want to add final touches to my paper copy

If not could you try only using those, and vice versa only using the old
symbology and old labelling?
