Problem of this kind of task is fact, that you can have more values that one in layer with values in destination polygon. Maybe is an simple way in vector toolbox, or you can create intersection of this two layers and update field in destination from intersect. Je; On Fri, Apr 04, 2014 at 08:28:

Dear all I have a Point layer (fire stations and attributed with phone nos., colony name) and Polygon (Localities/Cities attributed with PIN/ZIP no.) I would now like to assign polygon file attributes (PIN/ZIP no) to point file attribute (locality- an existing empty column (or) a new column)
