Hello
Is there a way to calculate the total sum of points that
intersect/overlap a particular line - so I can add a column to my line
dataset that tells me x number of points intersect/overlap this
particular line.

What type of dataset are you using. You can do this in Python in QGIS but
a SQL query might be easier.
