Update on the problem.
When I try to bring any of the 3 options on View/Decorations: Copyright
Label, North Arrow, Scale Bar, from the QGIS Plugin Manager, QGIS
crashes. For all the other plugins is working fine.

confirmed in linux ubuntu 11.10, so it's not a OSX problem

These decorations are not python plugins, so why do they appear in the
plugin manager?

The problem appears in local installation of 1.8 and master, but not
in a system install (from ubuntugis-unstable).
So advice to anyone installing qgis manually - cleanup you
install_prefix/lib directory of all old qgis libs

I noticed this when testing the packaging on OS X. So I added a note to the OS
X readme to delete the previous QGIS.app if there are problems. The OS X
installer should be removing this stuff automatically, but it's not, mayeb I
need to hardwire cleanup of old files... and someone should do

because the plugin manager is for all the plugins, python ones
but also C++ plugins.

Problem solved. I did a clean installation and the decorations do not
appear in the QGIS Plugin Manager anymore.

I'm also noting that just updating via osgeo (on windows) will also leave the
old repositories in play.
Don't know if the plugin problem happens, will check when I get to work.
