I have tried it too and it works indeed.
When I look at the layer where it works it says :
layer source :
multilinestring?crs=EPSG:31370={0cb5880a-ee8f-43d0-881d-84fb679a00c2}
When I look at the layer where it doesn't work it says :
layer source : memory?geometry=MultiLineString=EPSG:31370
I tried with a memory layer and it worked

Is the line to be split a closed ring?
Are project and layer CRS identical?
