I have been struggling (as some of you are aware) with creating DD disks on my PC running Windows 7 with a USB floppy disk drive

It seems that if I put a disk in the drive, there is little chance of either QPC2 or Q-emuLator detecting it as useable.

The trick is to first format the disk in DOS (using a Windows XP trick).
Start up a DOS prompt on your PC (easiest way is to go to Start menu and in the little box at the bottom, where it says search programs and files, enter CMD

Then in the DOS box, enter the command:
FORMAT a: /T:80 /N:9

This will format the disk as a DD (DOS) disk.

Now q-emuLator and QPC2 will recognise it - although only Q-emuLator appears to be able to re-format it as a QDOS disk every time - QPC2 invariably reports format failed. Q-emuLator also has a fast format option which allows you to reformat it as a QDOS disk in a couple of seconds.

Hope this helps someone else struggling!
