Hail to the wise ones!
Qmail has been running my mail server for two innocent years but seems like the time
for trouble has come. The server I'm talking about connects to the net through my ISP
over a leased line. Qmail uses my ISP's SMTPD as a relay client ( smtproutes
contains :CCC.CCC.CCC.CCC and CCC... is my ISP's SMTPD host ip number ) A couple of
days
ago the SMTPD at CCC.CCC.CCC.CCC (that's sendmail 8.9.3/8.8.7) began to reject
my qmail's bounce messages. Below is a cut from the log files. A message for a not
existing
mailbox comes from the net. Qmail tries to bounce it, but when connecting to my ISP's
SMTP
daemon it gets the "554 buildaddr: no host" error. I've masked the real domain names
with xxx
for the local host and yyy for the remote host and the real IP's with AAA for the
local host,
BBB for the remote host and CCC for my ISP's relay host. Can anybody figure out whats
going on?
I think the sendmail daemon rejects the bounce because there's an empty string for the
sender field in the envelope... I'll highly appreciate your help! Thank you in advance!
