thanks Dave, I was on the right lines, I just didnt know any thing about svc. once the links are created to /service it will start automatically on boot up, but if it had been stopped before shutdown (svc -d) - it will need to be 'svc -u' ed on bootup? so qmail(in init.d) should still be linked

when I try to run qmail start after installing (the lwq way) I get a lot of errors: multilog: fatal: unable to switch to current directory: access denied so I am assuming that a log directory hasnt got the right permissions or ownership, my /var/log/qmail directory is owned by qmaill, so

got it working - I had commented out the old qmail line with the " and ' in made a new one using: qmail-start ./Mailbox then it got onfused by the commenting out part way through a command - I presume the \ mean that the command continues on the nex line? many thanks Neil

I have started seting up qmail and have everything working apart from the aliases for root, postmaster, etc and smtp (which i havent started on yet) everything is installed in its default place ie /var/qmail/ in /var/qmail/alias I have done 'touch .qmail-root' and then 'chmod 644 .qmail-root'
