How qmail delivers locally

Reading the man files, I see that qmail has 2 ways that it processes mail locally (if I’m wrong let me know). First is the qmail-getpw, where the passwd file, and then the .qmail file located in a users $HOME directory is used to determine where mail is delivered based on the recipient address.
