Your startup could also be happening in the rc2.d scripts, check them
/etc/rc*.d/ as well as the start up of the sendmail in
/etc/rc2.d/S**sendmail.
Is there a /var/run/'filename' for that process and is it dead (svstat
/var/run/'filename')
