Eventually I found out the source of the problem.
For some reasons, the .bashrc file was missing in the home directory.
After copying that back and
giving the appropriate rights, qmail can start now.

I used Redhat Linux 5.2.
I could not start qmail whether using
csh -cf '/var/qmail/rc &'
or execute the qmail-start ... command
directly. It just exit with code 111.
Any hints ?
( By the way, I did this in another machine
also using Redhat 5.2 and was successful.
