check for a Maildir in your users directory.
If the Maildir is there make sure that the user owns the directory.

I am having the same problem...
(I send an email to the list earlier with the contents of all files I
thought might be relevant, but I haven't seen that mail come up. Can anyone
confirm that it was sent to the list? Perhaps I made a mistake in
sending...)

Does the user have a maildir? (In the right place?) Is it owned and writable
by him? Can he traverse parent directories? What do the logs say?

My guess would be, that qmail-local is unable to chdir to your Maildir.
That's just a guess though.
