But I think that is not the solution, because I want to add about 2000-3000
users at least in the near future.
I need a flexible admin tool to do this including the automatic creation of
the Maildir for each created user.

you can try to increase the ldap log :
loglevel 4 in slapd.conf
and post here your logs when you start ldap.

I did not find anything related to "loglevel " in slapd.conf .
Anyway where can I find the ldap logs and what is the best command to
stop/start the ldap server.

you may send a mail to an local user and post the error log you found in
your syslog.
