No problem. The file /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime is a file that
controls the number of seconds a message will sit in the queue (being
processed every 5 minutes), before the server bounces/trashes the
message. The value in this file will be a number, and will be the number
of seconds you want - the default is 604800 seconds.
Go in and change this file to a lower value, such as 600 seconds (10
minutes), and then do 'qmailctl restart'. Give it a few seconds, then do
'qmailctl doqueue' to tell QMail to process the queue again. Give that a
few minutes to finish bouncing the messages out, and then put it back to
a decent value. I personally use 10800, which is 3 hours. This value
also controls how long the server will try and deliver messages to
remote servers, so setting a value that is too low will cause emails to
high-volume domains that are always busy (such as Hotmail or Yahoo) to
bounce, but 3 hours has been the magic number for me. It gives the
remote server(s) plenty of time to receive the messages, but if
something is wrong it will still notify the user who sent the message in
a timely manner that something didn't work. I run a much higher value on
my backup MX, but for the main 3 hours is great.
Hope that helps.
