I use the IMAP Idle command, works great. When my phone is on the net I
get my e-mail, when it isn't on the net I don't. Works great. Wish

There are a number of options
1. install Funambol (www.funambol.com) that you can control by yourself
2. register an account at my.funambol.com
3. try this free and beta service http://www.seven.com/
There should be others in the market.
