I don't see any problem with this configuration. Are you able to access via webmail? If so then your problem isn't with dovecot. You tried STARTTLS with Normal Password? You should get a warning from TBird that it cannot verify the server's certificate. Have you seen this warning message?

I see username: hari What are you looking at, Max? STARTTLS is the recommended setting. Also, so long as you have STARTTLS, you can use PLAIN or LOGIN as authentication options. Encrypted Password authentication is typically cram-md5, which we're expecting to deprecate in the future. --
