A Hoyer lift uses a hydraulic cylinder to lift the main arm bar. Over many seasons of use, the seal, dries out and starts to fail by not lifting as high as it once did. Sometimes the cylinder can be rebuilt by a speciality company. Most times its just easier to replace it. Best Wishes
