Horrible!
I don't use a chest belt much but do use a lap belt. I've ALWAYS had
nightmare-ish thoughts/fears about falling forward quickly or forcefully enough
to have my footrests break loose and land face first with my heavy (21st
Century) power chair pinning me down. I'm sure I'd break my
A friend of Warrior and I was down in Indy on Tuesday and didn't realize
that a transition ramp and one step stair were installed together. Guess who
did the Evil Kneivel down the step, instead of taking the ramp.
She got free dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Now that's using your

A friend of mine was going down a steep grade in the grass and
his chair tipped forward. The footrests stopped the chair from tipping
and he was hanging in mid air, wearing a chest strap, suffocated.
I hope he did not linger long.

Only ONCE (abt 25 yrs ago) and it only takes once unless one wants to be
nominated for the Darwin list! My chair weighs 350 pounds so I have never
gone anywhere closer than 3 feet to a pool's edge or put myself *in any

I think Danny has me beat, but I have had my few scrapes.
1. I was daydreaming on a wooden bridge and realize that the last minute
that I had not made sure the sidewalk coming up was clear to my right. I
veered to the left and my big rear tire caught the side of the bridge and

I have gotten stuck probably 10 times. From one side of my wheels going off
the edge of a sidewalk, to getting stuck in gravel. Once I was on a dirt
trail and it got to soft and down I sank. No one was around, after a time, I
called 911 knowing I was too stuck for my aide to get me. Just as I was

My neighborhood is pretty set up for wheelchair access but in the almost 11
years of Quad life I have got stuck a few times. (1) got to close to edge of
sidewalk 2 wheels sunk deep in mulch--a police officer finally saw me and
helped pull me out. (2) After a big storm I sunk into loose gravel

I've tipped sidewise or fallen forward and couldn't sit back up, but have
always stayed in the chair.
But I have bumped my control joystick and scared myself being close to a
pools edge.
