----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Kafka Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 1:37 PM Subject: MDS Q1a - 2nd Quarter 2005 data Dear Community Service Advocates: The new (2nd Quarter 2005) Q1a data from CMS is available. Google: MDS ACTIVE RESIDENT INFORMATION REPORT INTERESTING NUMBERS 20.6% of those in nursing homes expressed an interest to move to the community. This is 287,837 people who have expressed an interest in leaving the nursing facility and moving into the community!!! You can get total information about your state and by county in your state. In addition to the Q1a information there is a lot of other information available. According to the CMS data: 302,017 are diagnosed with Stroke 16,779 are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 12,584 are diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy 12,385 are diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury 11,186 are classified as having Quadriplegia 9,788 are classified as having Paraplegia This information is useful as you advocate for your state to implement a State Money Follows the Person (SMFP) policy. Your state can focus on the people who have answered YES on the Q1a as a group that could, with assistance, transition from the nursing home to the community. If you want more info on how to advocate for a SMFP policy in your state contact: The ADAPT Community 512/442-0252 DON'T MOURN...ORGANIZE Join us in DC for the next Action SEPTEMBER 17TH-SEPTEMBER 22ND NATIONAL ADAPT MAILING LIST - Adapt MiCASA List http://www.adapt.org
