If we look at suffering as a commodity and assume that there is a vast but 
finite amount of it (like oil), then it follows that said suffering must be 
stored somewhere. That somewhere is among the unfortunate souls with the 
highest storage capacity, i.e. quads and other similar souls. On any given day, 
mankind's suffering inventory is moved around like boxes in a warehouse. Yours 
today, mine tomorrow. Suffering may appear to increase and decrease in this 
world, but it really doesn't. It is like water: constant in amount and fluid in 
movement. All that changes is distribution and intensity. I haven't yet figured 
out why suffering is so immutable and enduring, but I suspect it involves a 
delicate balance of good and evil. But that's a whole 'nuther subject.
