I use my windows 8 notebook from bed with the program IRCommand2 with the USB-UIRT to operate the smart tv, dvr and blu-ray. For changing channels I find it easiest to use my cable provider's web page Xfinity. Do you have an ipad or iphone? you can control it with one or two switches. You need one
