I don't fancy a car on axle stands that high !!
When i was building mine i had it on 4 stands like that (but lower) and
when i fitted the engine it was actually heavy enough to start lifting
the empty rear of the car. I had to put a couple of wheels and tyres in
the boot to keep it balanced.
cheers for the info guys
would it come out if i removed the battery tray and servo? - i was
planning to remove these anyway?
dont think ive enough height in the garage to lift the car up
cheers for the replies : )

I don't think so, the end cover on the gearbox sticks out further below
the chassis rail.
Maybe if the engine bay was completely empty and you can turn the engine
at an angle.
Strictly speaking the height of garage needed to get the engine out from
above should be the same as that from below,
The steering rack for the coupe as per the build manual was the standard
Fiesta rack rather than the XR2 this was because the XR2 was fitted with
restrictors. The effect of the wrong rack on my coupe was to make three point
turns into 5 or even 7 point turns and doing a U turn around a mini

You'd have to tilt it a long way to get it past the battery tray,
though you could probably do it with the tray removed - unfortunately
it's welded in, and quite severely, too!

Ok Jan, hopefully something by the end of today. It's looking like

At the moment, the conversion has stopped for lack of money/time with
a rolling chassis; hopefully the car will be running
And to add, you only need to lift the car a couple of feet, so any normal
garage would be ok

Yeah, the centre of gravity is quite far forward and there was a few trial
lifts with the forklift before getting it stable but it was no problem on
the stands (I did have the boot full of stuff as well though just to be
extra safe). Its actually a lot easier on the Q than it was on the XR2 due

Our local motor factors were willing to order one in for me - took a
couple of days though. May be worth trying, as the smaller guys tend
to have better customer service.
Alternately you could get a KN E-9090 - around £50 off eBay, and will
last forever. It fits in the same pan as the

We got it at least back to a rolling shell with the new engine in, in
seven days; we just didn't *quite* have it to the condition where I
could have had it running without more access to the donor cars. When

Hi Chris
Got my last air filter from Exhausts Unlimited if you've got them
nearby, got the brake shoes there as well.
However, don't ignore E-bay, I seem to be getting more of my spares
from E-bay shops these days.
