I'm not sure why, i've done quite a few of those in situ without problems.

There are a few variables, left hand/right hand, v belt vs ribbed belt pulley,
electrical connector and number of wires.
Just about anything can be made to fit, but for an easy life, fit what you had
before unless there are problems with the installation.
