I've welded mine a couple of time now and think I have a strong design now.
I've inserted a solid bar into the oval tube and welded that into place.

Your set-up may be different, but on the rear brakes on my early 2+2 I
didn't fit the load compensator and I use the 17.5mm cylinders which are
meant for a non-XR2 Fiesta.
Looking at Jim's screen shot, there aren't many choices anyway.
