same thing happened to me, not sure whats wrong. I unmuted everything in alsamixer. I'm on xfce 3.2 version and it doesn't have any volume mixer or settings. So I installed one from the available plugins but I don't see any options to check which sound device or what. not sure what to do here. I have seen users post about this from time to time, first time its happened to me now. after unmuting speakers in alsamixer, speakertest -c6 works from dom0 terminal.
