I've installed the ntp software on two computers running Windows XP.
And I want to know how accurate the two computers are synchronized.
The way came to my mind is to connect each computer to a GPS receiver via
RS232 respectively.

I have a problem (Houston..). :-)
I must connect a Navman Jupiter 21 receiver to a linux-embedded machine.
I must also use PPS signal for accurate time to syncronize the internal
machine clock.
After a lot of various tests i have big trouble upon the utilization of ntp.
i have used:
1 gpsd
Heiko is trying to do this from Germany so it would need an additional
international dialing code, with possible pauses required for modem
synchronization. Who knows what else is going on.

-d should show some useful debug information. A single -d should be all it
takes.
I created http://ntp.isc.org/Support/ConfiguringModemRefclocks and the
ModemRefclockUsers pages. Not much at either, yet.

thank you for your fast reply. I tried exactly that configuration, but
used the PTB phone number (which works in a test with cu, as described).
When I first did not include the atdt string, ntpd said "no answer" in
the syslog. When I include the "atdt" I can see no modem activity at all

The driver first tries NIST Boulder and if that fails USNO Boulder. Note
from my office it first dials 9 for an outside line, then 1 for long
distance.
