[ntp:questions] rdate vs ntpd -q

2011-03-22 Thread bombjack
Hi, I am currently working on a commercial system which uses rdate for roughly setting time when booting/restarting. Later ntpd is started and used to keep time accurate. My question: Is it possible to get rid of rdate in favour of "ntpd -q"? Any risks involved? ntpd starting later and/or needs mor

[ntp:questions] Problem building ntp in an rev. controlled environment

hi all, I have tried real hard to get ntp to build in a clearcase version controlled environment. If I try to build "vanilla", everything works and builds. But as soon as I check everything in and tries to build I get into problems. It seems that as part of configuring alot of "touch" is done to e.

[ntp:questions] ntptimeset wont compile

2010-12-07 Thread bombjack
Hi, I have tried to compile the ntp package and it works but for one binary: ntptimeset (which resides in the ntpdate directory). Being somewhat a novice when it comes to Makefiles, I have not been able to pinpoint what I need to do to also build ntptimeset. Any suggestions? BR, Fredrik _

First of all, thanks all for replying! @David: >ntpd will not change the time by more than 1,000 seconds unless you deliberately disable the safeties. yes, I know. ntpd is started with the -g flag, which will disable this safety. Don't ask me why though. I was not working with this when they cam

Hi, I am fairly new to the ntp arena, but have to learn fast as part of my work is trying to fix ntp problems. Lately I had a customer that complained that there servers went bananas due to time being wrong. (The customer claims that ntp had changed the time 20 years ahead). Looking at some wire sh
