Hi,
Scenario:
- I'm in control of a NTP server and can change the time on this
server as I please (this server is "sync'ed to the hw-clock)
- I have a client that is sync'ed with the server above (and only that
server)
What happens if I change the time on the server, lets say 5 years
forward? Will

Hi,
I am currently working on a commercial system which uses rdate for
roughly setting time when booting/restarting. Later ntpd is started
and used to keep time accurate. My question: Is it possible to get rid
of rdate in favour of "ntpd -q"? Any risks involved? ntpd starting
later and/or needs mor

You learn new things everyday... :-)
@Dave H:
hi all,
I have tried real hard to get ntp to build in a clearcase version
controlled environment. If I try to build "vanilla", everything works
and builds. But as soon as I check everything in and tries to build I
get into problems. It seems that as part of configuring alot of
"touch" is done to e.
Hi again,
Thank you all for your effort. I will have a look at the source code
just to understand and leave it there. (FYI: This is an old production
server running ntp 4.1.1. on Solaris. We are updating to latest-n-
greatest on newer servers).

I have STFI like crazy, but can't find an explanation for the error
code "signal_no_reset: signal 18 had flags 2" Could someone
explain what this mean? Or even better, give me a hint where I can
find info about all these error codes etc for ntp

Hi,
I have tried to compile the ntp package and it works but for one
binary: ntptimeset (which resides in the ntpdate directory). Being
somewhat a novice when it comes to Makefiles, I have not been able to
pinpoint what I need to do to also build ntptimeset.
Any suggestions?

Fredrik

First of all, thanks all for replying!

yes, I know. ntpd is started with the -g flag, which will disable this
safety. Don't ask me why though. I was not working with this when they

Hi,
I am fairly new to the ntp arena, but have to learn fast as part of my
work is trying to fix ntp problems. Lately I had a customer that
complained that there servers went bananas due to time being wrong.
(The customer claims that ntp had changed the time 20 years ahead).
Looking at some wire sh
