[R-sig-Geo] spgrass6 with cygwin

Can spgrass6 work with cygwin? I am trying to use grass 6 on a windows laptop instead of my old grass5.7. but can't find how to get stuff into R. I admit to not exactly following what is meant by "R is assumed to be running within GRASS" I used to open grass, set the region then use, for example
