referred
to under Point pattern analysis in the CRAN Task View: Analysis of Spatial
Data,
so I'm surprised that M. Giraudoux overlooked it.

Hello all,
I have a database of point (lat long) data.
I also have shapefiles of polygon and line data.
I need to find the distances from each of the points to 1) the nearest
polygon and 2) the nearest line.
Is this possible?
In R all
that (something like)
temp - readOGR(.,C67mF_K)
C67mF_K - as(temp,ppp)
marks(C67mF_K) - t...@data$typ
should work.

Annoyance is in the mind of the beholder I think. Personally I
find the structure of ppp objects absolutely *delightful*! :-)

Also, they are simple,

shapefiles
in the spatstat package'' (under the Downloads for spatstat on CRAN).

P. S. Let me know if you want my code. I suspect it's not much different
from what you have built yourself.
