I thought I would share this because it might help someone. We recently
had our at&t U-verse 2Wire 3800HGV modem/gateway/router replaced with a
newer 3801HGV model due to issues with the older unit. I had always used
the 802.11g wireless transmitter in the 3800HGV gateway for my
Squeezebox wireless devices, and set the newer 3801HGV up the same way.
Pretty soon we were getting drop outs on one of the radios, even though
the signal strength appeared strong. So I disabled the wireless radio
in the new 3801HGV, and added an Asus ASUS RT-N12 configured as an
access point using 802.11g. The Asus is located in the same area as the
at&t gateway. I have experienced zero drop outs on the radio after
making this change. I also have an D-Link DAP-1522 access point running
802.11n located fairly close to the Asus unit, and now my wireless
networks works great with all of my wireless devices. So I guess the
moral of the story is if your radio is showing a strong signal, but
still dropping out, the issue might be with the wireless access point
rather than the radio.
