Tips to keep mud and slime off the bike: 1) fenders 2) mud flaps 3) wash the bike afterwards. Ease of mounting fenders is largely in the hands of the bike designer: improperly placed bridges will make getting a good fender line difficult. Some Rivendells are good in that respect -- my Saluk
