I like my Vitesse. I have the 700 x 42. Previously this bike had the Compass Barlow 38s. I would agree that the Compass ride a little better--and room for fenders. For me it is handling. That may be a function of the width taking the bike geometries into an area that starts to slightly degrade

I have a set of Atlas 650b on my Clementine. They are certainly up to the tasks you describe. I've taken them off road, hauled my kid on his Burley Picollo, loaded 40-50pds of groceries, etc. I did hit a massive pothole at night at speed that put a dent in the rear, but was able to ride home.

Presently, I have a 120mm stem on the 55cm Cheviot that has a 59.5cm effective top tube and have not trimmed the bar ends. Using Paul thumbies but I will change to the IRD stem mount shifters to clean up the bars. This is my first 'upright' bike and the varied hand positions of the Bosco bars
