I ordered a PV-8 from Riv a couple days ago. I've been using the PD-8 for
over a year now with stellar results and I expect the same from the PV-8. I
haven't tried a Son or Shimano, but the quality of the SP units has been
stellar. FWIW, Riv has the cheapest online price for the PV-8s!

I made mine using X-PAC from rockywoods.com, 1/4 closed cell foam from eBay,
and cheap remnant ripstop from Joann's. 3 wide, no flare at front. The ripstop
formed a liner around the inner perimeter, and the foam was sandwiched in
between. The foam is important as it keeps things from rattling
