My only thought on discs, is that stock/mass-produced bikes with discs have VERY stiff forks. I've ridden my Salsa La Cruz back to back with my Riv custom, same 40mm MSO tires, and WOW, what a difference in compliance between the two. The La Cruz is like riding a jack hammer. Riv is totally plush.

Interesting conversation. I don't really notice chainstay length one way or another on the road, but for me, climbing singletrack isn't as fun with longer stays. Thanks, David. I'm looking at a tandem, that can fit 50mm, but not sure about a full 60mm 26" tire. But if so, the Supes look like the best tire for me. Not sure, but guessing the rims are relatively narrow by modern standards. If I can't get the Supes to fit, I can go w/ 50mm Big Apples as a back
