My only thought on discs, is that stock/mass-produced bikes with discs have VERY stiff forks. I've ridden my Salsa La Cruz back to back with my Riv custom, same 40mm MSO tires, and WOW, what a difference in compliance between the two. The La Cruz is like riding a jack hammer. Riv is totally plush.
