I used a one liter Trangia fuel bottle on the GDR mainly because of
the length of the trip, but now I carry either one or two 8oz clear
plastic flasks from REI. The great thing about the denatured alcohol
is that it's safe to carry in just about any container.

I think that the spent canisters may be recyclable, but would imagine
that most end up in landfills :(

I've had these for a while now, still sitting in the box and it's time
to pass them on. Brand new Paul Racers (2 wheels worth) in the
original long reach configuration in high polish for brazed on posts,
not the center mount version. I'd like to get $200 shipped in the
CONUS. Retail is $130 per
When I rode the Great Divide, there were stretches when I was riding
with people on full suspension rigs and bob trailers, and they had to
limit their speed on descents, otherwise their trailers would fishtail
and become unstable. I used front and rear panniers, and the bike was

I ground down the little tab, and everything works just fine :)
Haven't tried to install a shimano lever back on to the pod though.

I ride a 66cm Atlantis, but used a 60cm Bombadil on a long tour. It's
pretty compatible, with a 2cm longer TT. And heavier duty all around.

I have a backup set of Phil touring wheels that I want to unload to
free up funds for a Rohloff hub. They are 135 spaced in the back

black Mavic A719 rims, both built by Rich at Rivendell. They are one

It's a great bike, I rode a prototype on the entire Great Divide
Mountain Bike Route and put it through absolute torture with no ill
effects. This isn't a bike to fondle and flutter eyelashes at, it's a
purpose designed user with even heavier tubes than the Atlantis. I'm
sure you'll like it a
