[RBW] Crank Length Question

2013-04-29 Thread Peter M
So I have been putting more and more miles on the Bombadil and its an awesome ride but I am having an issue riding in Brooklyn traffic. I keep having to put my foot down at lights and don't want to dismount the saddle every time since the 56cm size has the TT right "there". Would going to 180m

If stand over is that much of an issue, I suggest a smaller frame rather than longer cranks. Long cranks may open up a rabbit hole of knee/hip issues. Maybe thicker soled shoes? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. To unsubscrib

Agree -- like moving your saddle to fix reach to the bar, this is going at it bass ackward. On Mon, Apr 29, 2013 at 4:50 PM, Jim Thill - Hiawatha Cyclery < thill@gmail.com> wrote: > If stand over is that much of an issue, I suggest a smaller frame rather > than longer cranks. Long cranks may

I just love the ride so much though, its only when I have to stop riding is the issue. I have a fist and a half of seatpost showing so its not like it sooo big. I would really need to replicate its long top tube but with less standover, which again would be near impossible without coughing up custo

I dunno, sounds like you're digging pretty deep for an excuse to tinker, haha! Why the Hell not! Let us all know how it goes. Shimano XT is available to 185 mm I think. Surly Mr Whirly too. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. T

Just remember that if you drop the saddle far enough to reach the pedal on the 180s in the bottom position, you've also raised the pedal in the top position; this might not be the most beneficial from a comfort perspective, a power transmission perspective or a biomechanical/knee stress perspective

All true points, its just such a pain to dismount every time I stop, which can be 10 plus times in a half hour. I don't need to put a whole foot down, just enough of a foot so I don't topple over like a jackass. Maybe getting some thicker shoes is in order, although I do like to tinker On Mo

Or you can just cruise slower up to the lights for better timing :-) Or learn how to balance on two wheels indefinitely saw a guy do this on a hellishly long signal. Hugh Sunland, CA >> > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group

The lights here are about 200 feet apart, I try to cruise to each one but you need to dart out each time to not get killed by people turning. no way my large body is gonna balance, Haha. On Apr 29, 2013 10:12 PM, "hsmitham" wrote: > Or you can just cruise slower up to the lights for better timing

You are supposed to dismount. I don't think changing to longer crank arms are such a good idea. The only real solution is to learn to trackstand. Youtube it and learn and you will not have to dismount at traffic lights, unless you want to. Plus, it just looks cool to trackstand. James Chang O

Hmmm... never really thought about this until now. But, I definitely can "tripod" myself with a slight hip shift and balance on my pointed toe on pretty much all of my bikes. Usually use my "to traffic" (left) foot to do this, so maybe there's an assist from the crown of the road. I don't hav

I'd echo what others have said, that is you are supposed to dismount when stopped. You shouldn't be able to put a foot down while in the saddle unless you have a wicked shallow ST angle or "crank-forward" design. I do draw the line at trackstands; they don't look cool. Personally, I d

I weigh 250 and I can trackstand for a minute or so. I'm going to go ride my bike, and see what I do at lights when I don't trackstand. I think I often just dismount, with the right foot on the ground, left foot on the pedal at 10am, ready to power down. On the kickoff, I rise up onto the saddl
